TIME TRAVEL DREAM MEANING – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

What does it mean when you dream of time traveling?

Does it mean you have a desire to time travel in real life, and this is a manifestation of that desire? Or is it something else entirely? The answer to that question depends on the specifics of your dream.

If you have a time travel dream that involves going forward or backward in time then it’s likely to be symbolic of some movement through life.

In other words, you’re currently grappling with some aspect of your life and this is represented by the movement through time in your dream. What you want to look for are the feelings that come up when you wake from a time travel dream.

How do you feel about what’s happening?

Are you scared or excited? Confident or confused? Do these feelings resonate with how you feel about this particular aspect of your life?

In this article, I am going to interpret such dreams from the perspective of the dreamer. In other words, it won’t matter whether you’re right or wrong about what a particular time travel dream means – what matters is how you feel when you wake up from the dream.

Exactly What is The Meaning of Time Travel Dreams?

Here is my take on this dream.

It means that you can’t let go of the past and you wish to change it.

It’s as if you keep going over and over certain things in your head and never letting them go. I don’t think this is a bad thing, as it shows that whatever has happened, has affected you deeply and you take things to heart.

Emotions

Emotions are the most common causes of dreams like this one. It may be regret, but it could also be something different. It can be both pleasant and strong at the same time. It’s like you’re actually reliving the dream.

So, I would say that there is no right or wrong interpretation of this dream; it all depends on your perspective.

These dreams are different for everyone because everyone has experienced things differently. However, if you feel deep happiness and excitement in the dream, regardless of what’s happening to you, then it can mean that you have a strong desire for change.

In other words, something in your life is currently stagnant and you want to alter it.

Feeling Confused About The Dream?

If you’re confused about whether the dream was pleasant or not, but didn’t care either way because you were just enjoying being there.

When you dream about time travel, you may experience a mixture of feelings. Some may be pleasant and others less so.

Read this as your subconscious giving you mixed messages, mirroring how you truly feel about what’s happening in your life now.

Is It Real?

This is a dream, after all, you can’t know for sure if it is real or not. You may feel as if you can control the dream, but deep down you know that it is nothing more than an illusion.

Why You Have a Dream About Time Travel

This dream generally means you are unhappy with the way things are going in your daily life. You might feel frustrated or disappointed with some aspect of your waking life and this is manifested as a dream about time travel.

This may come as a surprise to you, but it’s actually quite common for people to dream about time travel when they’re unhappy with something in their lives.

Here are some reasons why you are unhappy, whether you made the right decisions in life.

You Talked About The Past

When you discuss something from your past, it’s natural to make memories in your dreams. Have you been talking to people about the past? Your own past is a big part of you, so it’s only expected that when you think about something in your waking life, your subconscious will make it appear in your dreams.

It could be someone, something, or some situation that you don’t want to let go of.

You have things you’d change if only you had another chance

If there was a period in your life that you are unhappy with, you might have woken up and thought: “If only I could do things differently…”

When something like this happens, your subconscious makes it happen in a dream.

Because we all need to let go of the past sometimes, if we don’t we will end up repeating our mistakes and missing out on the present.

It is important to learn from your actions and how you behaved in certain situations. However, it’s not helpful for us to live there forever.

You have a dream about something that may happen in the future

The concept of mental time travel and future projection through dreams is well documented since the start of mankind. Carl Jung, one of the contemporary psychologists, conducted studies on synchronicity.

He found that some of his patients had uncanny dreams about future events, while others had precognitive dreams about things in the past. So with this in mind, when you dream about time travel, it means your subconscious is trying to tell you something.

You might be worried or afraid of something that hasn’t happened yet.

You are stuck in the past

Time travel may indicate that you can’t escape your past.

If you have difficult memories in your mind, they may be difficult to forget.

We create a space for them to remain with us, but not as a healthy reminder.

It’s possible that something from your past is playing on your mind and you want to let it go. You dream about time travel because you feel like everything is happening too quickly and you don’t know what to do.

You feel confused or overwhelmed about something that is happening in your waking life, but it doesn’t quite make sense yet.

This could be a situation with someone you know, where you are trying to figure out their actions and what they mean. The same applies to unpleasant or awkward memories; if you can’t let go of them, they will return in your subconscious via dreams.

You should take this as a sign that it’s time to move on and forgive yourself (and anyone else who may be involved).

You’re thinking about how your decisions now will impact your future

You want to know how your choices could transform your future.

Most of the time, people who dream about time travel are looking for guidance.

If this is true for you, now’s the time to pay attention to what your dreams are telling you.

You want to know if there is something else out there waiting for you before committing yourself wholly to something or someone.

It could be that your dream of time travel is telling you to take a step back, reassess the situation and make careful plans for the future. You are asked to change your perspective

Your dream may inspire you to view things from a new perspective.

Time travel in your dreams can be a metaphor for changing your viewpoint.

You want to get out of the habit of seeing things only from one point of view. You should expand your horizons and consider other alternatives, particularly if you feel like you’ve been looking at something the same way for too long.

You are curious about the advancement of technology

If you have a futuristic concept that demonstrates your interest in current technology, it’s not a big surprise that you dream about time travel. Since we all need to learn and discover, your subconscious may be trying to combine these desires with something that makes sense to you at a deeper level.

You’re going down memory lane

If you dream about one aspect of your life or perhaps a certain personality from your past, you may miss this person or event. You may be trying to tie up loose ends with this person or situation before finally letting go of the memory or incident for good.

Time travel doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re actually physically moving through time; rather, it could be a symbolic representation of memories and dreams.

You are idealizing your future

You’re advised to be realistic to deal with setbacks and prevent disappointment because life is never perfect.

You want something you lost

If you want to look back on the past, one option is to yearn for something you’ve lost. The loss of something may have caused you to feel empty, and you’re trying to retrieve it through dreams about time travel.

You fear the future

It can also be possible that you’re having trouble dealing with the anxieties of daily life. It may be difficult to imagine what the future holds, and your anxiety about your future may be causing bad dreams.

Types of Dreams

There are many types of time travel dreams and each one may indicate a different meaning or period in your life that is important. Here are some of the most common types:

You See Yourself in The Past

You may find yourself in a position where you are extremely dissatisfied with what happened in a particular period in your life.

You may see yourself doing something you regret or that caused serious damage to yourself or another person.

On the other hand, it’s also possible that the dream is highlighting some things from your past which require reflection and/or acknowledgment of your accountability in what occurred. Time travel into the past implies you’re dwelling on things you never had a chance to do the first time around.

You may also believe you never had the chance to do your best.

The dream is reminding you that you can still accomplish all of this.

Or maybe a sense of happiness and memory represents that you want to go back to a happier and younger self.

We all want to explore the childlike part of our personality.

Travel to a Historical Event

When you dream about important historical events like wars, the medieval period, or even the Stone Age, it indicates that you are processing information about history. You are thinking about what took place in the past and how it influences your life today.

Or perhaps you are asking yourself what lessons can be learned from this period?

Pay special attention to the actual historical event you are dreaming about.

Traveled through time and found yourself in prehistoric times

If you happened to be in a very far past from our current time, your dream is likely about the potential of all living things.

If you felt alone in the world, it often means that you are not satisfied with where you are right now.

You may feel some shame looking back on the current phase of your life and you want to start over.

Maybe something or someone is blocking your success?

It’s possible that you lack self-confidence and are fearful of what the future holds. What does it mean to dream of going to the future?

If you are wondering what it means to dream about the future, it’s important to look at the details of your dream.

For example, if you have a vision of the future which includes a sudden and dramatic change in the environment.

Your unconscious may be warning you of an upcoming life transition.

On the other hand, if you see a gradual shift into a brighter future then it could mean that you are looking forward to great success. In this case, pay attention to your current situation, your goals, and your visions for the future.

Family and friends also play a large role in your feelings about the future.

In other words, if you dream about any of them, it could be related to a situation or problem that is going on in your waking life.

If a new member of the family appears it could indicate a new addition.

If a friend is no longer with you, it could mean that you may not be spending as much time together anymore. What does it mean when you dream about being in the past?

The interesting thing about time traveling or dreaming of being in the past is that it can be positive or negative.

If you are reliving a happy memory, the dream could indicate your desire to bring back old times or feelings.

On the other hand, if you see yourself in a negative situation, perhaps one that is embarrassing or hurtful, then there may be something you never had the chance to resolve.

Perhaps you never had the chance to apologize for what happened or wish that things could have gone differently. We worry about the future and we reminisce about our past.

When you dream about a happy time in your life, it means that you want to experience this feeling again.

You may even feel like you need to go back at all costs.

Can you go back in time in your dreams?

The benefit of dreaming is that we can also make the impossible possible.

According to Freud, this is because our waking life has too many restrictions and limitations. In a dream, we are free to do anything that we want.

There are no rules and there’s no need to explain ourselves.

Time-traveling in dreams can also happen because your brain is sorting through memories that may still be affecting you currently. This is especially true if the dream was very realistic or if you felt like it actually happened to you.

Perhaps you went to a place where you spent a great deal of time when you were younger.

In this case, your brain may be trying to process these emotions and sensations from your waking life.

Conclusion

Pay attention to what the dream might reflect on your current life habits and actions.

If you are thinking about achieving a goal in the future, then it could be your brain’s way of telling you that you can do it. On the other hand, if you are unsure whether something is possible or not, perhaps you need to ask someone for help.
